This weekend’s Daylight festival (Saturday 22nd) sees Iona Leigh take to the stage at 12:15pm, blending her effortless vocal over a Gaelic tinged folk backdrop. There’s a intermingled sense of tradition and the contemporary in her work and wonderful sense of melancholy in tracks like ‘Must I Be Bound’ which you can have a listen to at the link I have provided below.

Rothko will be taking to the stage for their final live appearance of 2008 (1pm), the band founded by Mark Beazley will be playing a range of material from their back catalogue as well as presenting material from their latest release (Building Castles Out Of Sand). What should you expect? Well Rothko unpack big sweeping audio landscapes and lay them out at your feet, incredibly spacious downtempo material that has a tendency to haunt and linger. Have a listen to ‘Voices’ with it’s edgy skittish drums and distant vocals as an excellent primer for their material. Unmissable.

As always the event is free and the quality of the acts on offer at Daylight remains consistently first rate. Definitely something that should be added to your weekend itinerary.
