Its fast approaching that time of week again when we look to Islington and The Union Chapel to provide us with our weekly fix of free music and as ever it looks like won’t be disappointed with this week’s offerings. Onstage on Friday at 12pm sharp is Fiona Bevan. Described by glasswerk.co.uk as radiant and uplifting, I’m inclined to agree, have a little gander at her myspace profile and you’ll see what they mean. There’s a playful flair to her vocal talents as she swoops and soars over her own compositions. Her first EP ‘In The Swimming Pool ranked third in Londonists top ten best cd’s and rightly so in my estimation.

Saturday brings The Grubby Mitts to the stage at 12:15pm, lots of haunting found sounds in their work (have a preview at their myspace page, link below). Its a bit like walking around a city centre and having all the background noise hijacked and reshaped into something that is decidedly palatable. Ghostly, but pleasing all the same.

On stage at 1pm is Alucidnation which is the musical project of Bruce Bickerton. Having released his critically acclaimed debut LP ‘Induction’ on the Big Chill Recordings label in 2004, the sound of alucidnation has surfaced on numerous complilations around the world. Bruce has just finished compiling his second LP, again on Big Chill, which is due for release in October this year.

So there you have it, nip along it won’t cost you anything and it could turn out to be the highlight of your weekend.
