Sarah Whatmore releases her single ‘Undefined’ on Monday followed by her album ‘Time To Think’ on the 23rd. Now, I’ve held off reviewing this because a) I didn’t think I would like it b) I’ve been busy c) I haven’t got any other singles to put with it to take the sting out of a potentially bad review.

Let me start with me saying it’s not necessarily to my tastes, it’s one of those earnest kind of teen friendly love songs that you used to find on things like Dawson’s Creek. As a song though it is shall we say competent. Whatmore proves capable as a vocalist, there’s definite evidence of range although she goes for a bit of a moody undercurrent on this one. It’s all screened against a backdrop of ‘ooh my heart is breaking’ style tinkly bright piano and ‘aren’t I serious and emotive’ acoustic guitars (there’s even a touch of rock strumming in the verses kids, this girl means business).

Thankfully this is the single because the track on her album that followed it made me want to gag…
