Sugababes stake their claim on the December charts with their latest single ‘Change’. This is an almost a moment that reclaims their previously flawless pop heritage (things have never been quite the same since the scary one left and the Maureen Lipman lookalike joined. Despite the time of year the Sugababes have thankfully stayed clear of a release that imbibes the listener with festive slush. The real strength in this release comes in the form of the Wideboys remix, which snaps the legs off any gentle sensibilities this song and messily time stretches the vocal so the girls sound like they are breaknecking through the track in a manner akin to someone needing the loo rather desperately. Still it works and its out on a dual CD and USB package on December 17th. Not their best work but a reasonable effort.

The Days release their “Evil Girls” EP on December 12th, they have a sound like the wistful end of summer which is perhaps a tad inappropriate being as we are in the final throes of the year on the run up to Christmas. Lightly strummed jaunty guitars and bright and shiny piano. Jaunty stuff that isn’t unappealing.

Jamie Scott & The Town release ‘Standing In The Rain’ on January 7th. Perhaps they’ve timed it for the post Christmas come down. It’s a little slab of whispery voiced melancholia, it’s the sort of thing you would hear in the closing credits to something like the The O.C or some such. But for the most part it sadly washes over the listener leaving little impression.
