THEATRE PRESS RELEASE:
Moses Pendleton’s groundbreaking American dance theatre company MOMIX is returning to the UK this November with the UK premiere of LUNAR SEA. Having dazzled audiences during last year’s visit to London, this new MOMIX production plays at the Peacock Theatre for 3 weeks only, 7th – 25th November 2006. LUNAR SEA is simultaneously striking in its creation of a magical monochrome world and undeniably intriguing in its execution.
In 2005, for the first time in a decade, MOMIX performed in the UK at the Peacock Theatre with Opus Cactus. The company returns to the venue with the UK premiere of LUNAR SEA on Tuesday 7th November 2006, with press night on Wednesday 8th November.
MOMIX has toured the all over the U.S., Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Holland, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Japan, Singapore, Macau, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and Chile.
“A joyous, fantastic, magical multi-media creation – eye popping and mind-boggling”
New York Times
LUNAR SEA uses black light theatre techniques to create an entrancing, ethereal world.
10 dancer-illusionists in fluorescent costumes – seemingly unfettered by the laws of gravity – glide, swim and move through space, let loose in a weightless world that is beautiful to behold and mind-boggling when you wonder how it’s done!
In LUNAR SEA Moses Pendleton magics up a planet awash with choreographic possibilities; audiences are invited to marvel at the method while being mesmerized by the movement on display.
LUNAR SEA also features puppet creations by Michael Curry, one of the creators for Disney’s The Lion King. The soundtrack, ranging from work by Brian Eno to Buddha Experience, is eclectic and evocative of the strange, sensuous space conjured on stage.
Astonishing inventiveness, playful humour and physical beauty are the hallmarks of MOMIX. For 25 years they have conjured up otherworldly imagery through the original use of props, light, music, and the human form. Pendleton, who is one of America’s most innovative and widely performed choreographers and directors, created MOMIX in 1981 and since then the company has toured across five continents to great acclaim.
