This week’s round up of single kicks off with Taio Cruz’s impending solo release ‘Come On Girl’ out on March 3rd. As singles go you can hear the Timbaland/Pharrell influences a mile off and if anything that does stand the track in good stead. Nothing earth shatteringly original here but then again nothing that will make you switch off the radio either. Expect to hear this one all over Radio 1 like a bad rash any day soon.

US nearly men ‘Jimmy Eat World’ preclude the release of their new album ‘Chase This Light’ with a tour and the single ‘Always Be’ out on March 3rd . Inoffensive jangly pop of the type they do so well but once again nothing to set your trousers on fire. Still somebody out there eats up this stuff in droves because they have added another date to their tour. If you want to catch them live they will be in London at The Brixton Academy on February 18th and The Roundhouse on March 3rd.

Thankfully something with a little more about it comes in the form of Jacob Golden’s ‘Out Come The Wolves’. Melancholy and drenched in the kind of effects we used to hear on those insular but strangely epic songs in the sixties this is an acoustic driven apocalypse piece and without doubt is the strongest offering I received in this little batch. Lauded by many in the popular press this track foreshadows Jacob’s second album ‘Revenge Songs’ in October. If this is a taste of what we are going to get, I want more.
