Flyleaf come bursting on to the scene for 2008 with their eponymous debut album out on January 14th. This quartet have been stirring up the waters with their live performances for some time now and if your musical tastes lie just north of the metal border then I don’t doubt that you will find something here to appeal to your tastes.

As a band Flyleaf deliver a mixture of huge smack down riffs interwoven with the same butter wouldn’t melt vocals that will undoubtedly draw comparisons with Evanescence but if anything this album shows that little more aggression than their forebears and refuses to go down the ‘Meat Loaf Piano’ route. Vocalist Lacey Mosley also has the capacity to drift from the gentile to the pumped aggressive at the flick of a switch.

The subject matter covers familiar territory for the genre (abuse, neglect, addiction etc) so the weepy eyed eyeliner squad are more than catered for with this album. Still as an introduction to the band it’s an impressive starter, with a good quotient of tracks that should fill a mosh pit at a hard rock disco near you soon. The production courtesy of Howard Benson is right on the money.

Highlights from this album are the new single (out March 3rd) ‘I’m So Sick’, ‘Cassie’ (which is also presented on the album in a pleasing acoustic version) and ‘Sorrow’.

The band are also on tour from January 14th supporting Korn across a ten date tour of the UK…
