Roller skates are so passe i hear you say. Interestingly enough i can whole heartedly tell you, you are so, so wrong.

I went all glam a few Fridays ago and headed to Roller Disco held at Canvas (old Bagley’s nightclub) in King’s Cross. The doors opened at 8pm and on arrival I felt i’d stepped back in time to 1984 except now the girls had breasts and I was allowed to buy alcohol.

On entering, a very friendly and smiling guy gave me a pair of size 10s in exchange for my shoes. Of course just like the old days I had to return them to get a more comfortable size.

There were three skate areas to choose from, each with a different lovable DJ playing completely different sounds (and no drinking on the dance floors or walking across without skates).

The vibe was very positive and certainly no attitude from the very mixed crowd – and didn’t those girls look irresistibly cute in those pull up socks dancing in their skates in the middle of the floor.

If you’re quite rusty on a pair of skates I suggest you get there early so you can practise like I did. There are also instructors circling the floor in case you need some free help. It was really like being a kid again – everyone going in circles nervously trying not to hit anyone else.

Get your skates on, this is an 8.5/10 night out.
