Wednesday grants me the good grace to mop up any singles that might have escaped my attention (or were late arrival by post), either way this time out we have a couple for perusal. First up is Roisin Murphy’s latest release from her critically acclaimed album ‘Overpowered’. As an album it represents Murphy’s return from experimental waters, a return to the sure footed club material she does so well, ‘You Know Me Better’ is undoubtedly one of the strongest tracks on offer and was a natural choice for a single. As always Murphy is ably backed in the remix department, luminaries such as Toddla T brings a short but sweet bolshy little two step mix to the table. Guy Williams, lightens the mix with plenty of clicky top end percussion while Trevor Lovey’s mix has a slightly 90’s retro feel to it before the swampy bass and skittish beat work kicks in. Finally the effort by Nightmoves is as brooding as their namesake and foregoes such pleasantries as…ooh…choruses. Nay mind though, its all ace.

There’s an abrupt sea change in direction as I crank up the latest by Plain White T’s. ‘Our Time Now’ is out on April 21st the previous releases might have had a candy stripe of popular enthusiasm running through them but for some reason they could always pull it off. Unfortunately this single shows something of a misstep in their plans for world domination. I just can’t get past the fact that it sounds like Busted or something of that ilk. They’ve even put the instrumental on the disc, quite obviously a ploy to get their track played over ‘Goal Of The Week’ or some other football fixtures programme because everyone knows that’s where the money is these days.
