The first self titled album courtesy of ‘Evelyn Evelyn’ is probably going to be the most unique prospect I’m going to come across all week (not difficult this week, or any other for that matter). For those who aren’t familiar with this project it is the brainchild of Amanda Palmer and Jason Weber. Evelyn Evelyn are apparently the ‘world’s only conjoined twin singer songwriter duo” and share “three legs, two arms, two hearts, three lungs and a single liver”.

The album itself is consists of twelve pieces (one being a cover of Joy Division’s Love Will Tear Us Apart). The songs themselves illustrate the life journey of the Evelyn Evelyn taking in elements of tragedy and comedy and storyboard narrative along the way. It is an infectious journey wrapped up in quirky vaudeville clothing that is sometimes playful sometimes melancholy but always compelling. For example one such story details the sisters childhood pet (which was an elephant), while another details the problems of relationships when you’re conjoined (You Only Want Me ‘Cause You Want My Sister).

The album has elements of tongue in cheek throughout (the over the top ‘My Space’ with its wailing guitars and 80’s synths being a prime example) but the material is strong and demonstrates a warmth towards the characters that Palmer and Weber have created, the official release date is March 30th and you can order the album from the links to the webstore below.

Definite recommend.
