It only seems like five minutes since the latest season of the Daylight festival began at the Union Chapel. Since then each week has provided a delightful showcase of talent from around London and further afield, all for nothing and all in the Chapel’s resplendent surroundings. This weekend is no exception.

Starting off with the needle drop melodies of London’s 52 Commercial Road, armed with lightly chiming guitar, mournful violin and whispering builds of percussion which loll through their pieces. There’s a slow burning intensity to their music which gradually increases in scale as they progress. Add this to the acoustics of the venue and it should be a real treat for the listeners. As always there is a link to there material below.

Taking to the stage at 1pm is Forestbrook Folkestra, there’s something incredibly apt about this lot closing the season. They gently blend slivers of electronics and acoustic instrumentation against backdrops of natural ambient sound such as birdsong before introducing trumpets, folk guitar and an array of light percussion. On paper it might sound as though these combinations wouldn’t necessarily gel. However in truth it’s completely the opposite, the way everything falls together on these pieces is astonishing. I can’t remember hearing a blend of sound that came over as natural as this in ages and I have to say I am absolutely smitten. If you doubt my word, go and have a listen to what they have on offer (every track on their myspace is excellent and check out the imagery they use as well, super cute!).

Remember folks, this is your last bit of Daylight for this season so make time to nip along. As always it cost nothing and the music will be its own reward for doing so.
