Superman Revenge Squad (absolutely ace name and a knowing wink for the comic fans!) is Ben Parker. Landing with three tracks of acoustic material available for download from God Is The TV (link below) you could be excused for lumping him in with all the strumming troubadours who in many cases quite frankly irritate more than inspire.
SRS material however is unashamedly dour, like Morrissey but without that strange indomitable spirit. These are the songs of a man who has already been crushed by life’s indignities and judging by what’s on offer no longer gives a toss. Still it gives his songs something of a biting wit that should raise a smile (Idiot Food’s jumbled New Order references being a good example).
On the flipside of the coin though have a listen to ‘The Angriest Dog In The World’, I came away from this one wondering if SRS required additional ‘sunshine meds’ before he did himself or someone else harm. Still having said that I’m very fond of these songs already and I think you will be too. Go and have a listen.
