DFA Remixes – Chapter 1 (Out now)

DFA Records (LCD Soundsystem) have gathered together some old familiar names for a class reunion and you’ve been invited. However, be aware, they’ve all changed quite a lot since you last heard from them.
The Chemical Brothers, the Fischerspooners and even the old Belgian exchange students, Soulwax, will be there, but my goodness don’t they sound different! Blues Explosion might not be able to make it though because they’ve allegedly been force-fed through a squelch-mincer and aren’t feeling too well.

The standout former-prom-queen of the whole affair, however, has to be the appearance of DARE by Gorillaz, the first half of which has the requisite-remix beat-supplement and plinky-plonky effects, whereas the second half sounds as though DFA have hooked it up to the local power station and are ATTEMPTING TO RAZE IT TO THE GROUND THROUGH ENERGY SURGES, JANET,…..NOW BACK TO YOU IN THE STU….

Buy it if….you have any sense at all.

If it were a tankful of remix piranhas, then each original track would thrash around for a while before being devoured slowly over a period of 10-15 minutes, leaving nothing but a naked skeleton. Otherwise 120, 000, 000 out of 5

The Storys – The Storys (Out now)

Once upon a time there lived an incredibly rich, powerful and musically gifted old queen called Elton John. She decided one day that she wanted to share her music with the kingdom and organised a great tour through the land. Needing a group of noble guardians similar to knights of old (Sir BonJovi and Sir Cliff) in order to support her merry quest, she passed the honour to her Welsh brethren, and this is where The Storys began.

With titles such as I Believe In Love and You’re Taking My Heart Away, folk-pop-Dad-rock has never sounded so Fleetwooding Eagley Mac. Don’t take my word for it, though. A fan describing their beloved Storys on Amazon claimed it as, “Some of the most hauntingly beautiful and intriguing pop/soft rock accessible to ‘boy band’ fans and lovers of gentle rock and roll.”

Gosh, sounds delightful!

Buy it if….you’ve ever apologetically uttered the words, “I can’t come out tonight, the X-Factor finale is on TV.”

If it were a movie menu on the longhaul flight to Australia, every film would have Hugh Grant playing the lead role. Otherwise 2 out of 5
