The Daylight festival gets in the Christmas spirit with a special night time event on the 15th. Jeremy Mendonca and The Help open proceedings. Taking to the stage at 8pm with a laid back infectious mixture of folk and bluegrass. Vocally Jeremy delivers with the warmth needed to convey the stories in his songs. While there are light and airy moments in the music which summon thoughts of relaxed lazy summers anywhere but here there are some exquisite little splashes of darkness, listen to ‘Push It Down’ for an example. I consider this track in particular a real find.

Continuing the acoustic theme of the night, Eva Abraham takes to the stage at 9.30pm, Eva possesses a voice that gives you flashes of its power but has the style to show restraint when it works for the good of the song. There are some lovely pensive undercurrents to her material which serve to hold the listener’s attention with ease. Tantalising stuff, and a fitting prelude to her long awaited album ‘Full Circle’.
