Its becoming common practice for fan involvement to play a part in “your favourite band/artists” latest release, whether it be single or album. Hard Fi are the latest to be offering the casual listener the chance to take their up and coming single “I Shall Overcome” and its component parts and tear it to pieces in a bid to grab a brief flourish of fame as the “boy or girl who remixed Hard Fi”.

The band have setup a website which contains the tools to create an online remix or for the bedroom producers who already have their own established ways of working the parts are available for download.

If you aren’t creatively led by the opportunity to mash beats then worry not, for the more visually creative there is the opportunity to design the sleeve for the single and upload it to the gallery and be in with a chance to win a framed print of your efforts.

There is of course the argument that the bands are just using the fans as cheap labour, after all lets be honest in the digital age there is no shortage of sound and vision merchants armed with the tools and enthusiasm to make a half decent job of whatever you throw at them. On the flipside of course you could say getting hold of track breakdowns in this manner is something of a boon which shouldn’t be taken too lightly, them all important component bits and pieces have always been a bugger to get hold of in decent quality formats.

Whatever your viewpoint, the competition is out there. Just like the single will be on March 10th . What are you waiting for?
