Keen eared listeners out there in radio land will doubtless be aware of the presence of Duffy, this could very well be her year as well if her opening gambit ‘Rockferry’ is anything to go by. A soaring torch song that has seen her voice rightfully compared to the late great Dusty Springfield, there’s a bubbling undercurrent to her voice in this song that unleashes in the latter stages and really makes you sit up and pay attention.

She’s something of an industry favourite at the moment as well, the annual BBC Sound of 2008 poll comprising of 150 UK based music writers, editors and broadcasters has seen her enter the chart at number two in the overall top ten. A public vote is currently running alongside the industry vote and Duffy is leading.

Quite right too.
