Morcheeba those soft treading nearly types of the nineties return with their sixth studio album featuring a host of collaborators. Maintaining their downtempo gentility with a quota of guest singers to form an ever changing roster up front they kick off with the forthcoming single ‘Enjoy The Ride’. It finds us listening to the unearthed treasure that is the voice of Judy Tzuke, (strange how vocally she never sounds any older), it has to be said though that the song has a distinctly Radio 2 flavour with it’s Fleetwood Mac stylings. In fact the same could be said of many parts of the album. It’s decidedly warm in execution, with a suite of dreamy laid back beats and acoustic noodlings, none of this is ever going to raise your pulse but I do suspect that if the band show a little gumption and let some third parties get involved in the singles some rather more boisterous remixes could be had from this little lot. Highpoints include the slightly dubby Thumbnails and the passive rapping of Cool Calm Pete which strolls casually all over the track (complete with the world’s first beatboxing with flutes apparently). Oh and Au De La sounds a bit like Dolly Parton’s Jolene (but in French), might be a guilty pleasure moment for some (cough).

Elsewhere the band head into country territory and forego the brief shimmies of electronica that can be found on their earlier work (Run Honey Run and Gained The World). If you’ve had a banging night out and you’re lying in bed staring at the ceiling at 4am and the substances just won’t subside then you might find this is the album for you. If however you like your music a little bit more frantic this isn’t going to float your boat.

The album is due for release on 4th February, and will be preceded by a digital single “Enjoy the Ride”, on 28th January. The single has a fantastic video to go with it, produced by Tennessee based cartoon animator Joel Trussel.
