Rothko comes to the Union Chapel on Friday (12pm) bringing their gentle spacious guitar work to the Daylight Festival, listening to their music is one of those experiences that gives you those “pin drop” moments as you capture the silence between the notes. For me it was highly reminiscent of Durutti Column with its ghostly ambience. Should be a great prospect and of course as ever there is no charge for admission.

Saturday brings The Only Michael to the stage (12pm) with his particularly brand of down tempo chilled electronica. Have a listen to the innate beauty in some of his tracks such as The End Of The Pier Show and The Ghost Of Thomas Paine on his myspace page (link below) its absolutely gorgeous stuff and should be well worth a look.

Obstage at 1pm is SonVer, SonVer tread a post-rock path of layers, loops and atmospherics –
fusing electric cello, guitar, bass and percussion with disembodied
electronica to create their unique soundscapes.

Jo Quail [cello], Ben McLees [guitar / bass], Ruban Byrne [guitar /
bass] and Alistair Richardson [percussion / piano / guitar].

“Drifting like mist on the river, booming like ships that collide in
the night, as plangent as rain on glass, and sometimes as harshly
implacable as waves against the sea wall, SonVer’s music melds cello,
guitar, effects and samples … with nimble grace and otherworldly
effect.” Nemesis
