This weekend’s Daylight offering at The Union Chapel kicks off at 12:15pm with The Outside People. An intriguing prospect this one, fusing Fairy Tales as a popular medium that almost everyone is familiar with against an avant garde backdrop of electronica. Mainstream meets fringe ideas for greater accessibility.

Tobias Zaluda is on stage at 1pm bringing a quirky brand of stop start electronica to proceedings (listen to the absolutely wonderful Terry Nation track, November on the myspace page link below). It’s like 10cc’s peak of career oddities mixed with sparse dry breakbeats. Quite frankly it’s what the world needs right now. Getting playlisted to death here.

Saturday sees Vanity Press bringing their brand of folk rock to the chapel. Lush beds of guitar sit behind a voice to die for with this bunch. The singer Victoria Bourne is highly reminiscent of Beth Gibbons from Portishead in this reviewer’s humble opinion. If you don’t believe me then have a listen to their offerings (particularly ‘If You’).

Greg Hall is onstage at 1pm offering a set of gentle acoustic songs. He’s been gigging for a few years as a singer/songwriter as well as playing with a number of other acts. Have a listen to his work on his myspace page, ‘Falling Rain’ being the standout track for me.
