Another week another debut, this time from Jamie Scott and The Town as they set to release their first album and single (Park Bench Theories and When Will I See Your Face Again respectively).

It would seem the world is full of tear stained and wispy voiced blokes strumming on guitars using flowers as metaphors for women at the moment. Jamie Scott is another one.

Its certainly not offensive as far as a release goes, the folk tinged acoustic approach is undoubtedly well produced and there is a certain fire in the musicianship including a slight tinge of wiry apprehension in ‘London Town’ however as a whole it’s a mere minor spark that fails to catch and set the rest of the songs on fire. Although may I just note on ‘Changes’ he does yowl and wibble a bit like Charley the cat from the ‘stranger’ ads in the seventies.

Like I say inoffensive, and that’s the problem. We’ve been stuffed a glut of this stuff over the last year or so. More is needed to draw Jamie and Co out into the light and above the average.

‘When Will I See Your Face Again’ is out on 20th August, ‘Park Bench Theories’ follows on September 3rd.
