Let’s get one thing straight, normally this wouldn’t be the sort of track to float my boat. I took one look at the offering and thought to myself, this ain’t gonna sit well with me. However it has to be said, this was my first pleasant surprise of the week.
A super sparse stripped back piece of music that showcases a wiry effortless pop/soul vocal that soars above its sinewy origins. Again the press states that he draws upon the vocal stylings of his forebears and I have to say in this case I’m inclined to agree. There’s a heavy does of Prince in this track and I’ve got to say in this context that isn’t a bad thing. This track serves as the opener to his self titled debut and it should be interesting to see what he can offer beyond this single.
