There are some things that will be around forever, spanning the generations with ease and generating an either love them or hate them attitude from all and sundry. The Sound of Music is just one of those things. For some a delightful escape into the musical adventures of the Von Trapp family with the associated songs burned into the public consciousness, for others its something so sugary and sweet it makes the fillings fair leap from your head.

The new Maria, Connie Fisher fresh from reality television (How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?), straight to the stage is represented along with the likes of stalwarts of stage like Leslie Garrett in the latest incarnation of the popular stage show. Now however you can buy the soundtrack in the form of the London Palladium 2006 cast recording. You can now take all the old favourites home with you and savour the joys of the musical at home (come on, you know you want to). Who could resist the joys of belting out Climb Ev’ry Mountain in the shower. Or after a pissed ramble back from the pub enjoy a chorus of The Lonely Goatherd or Do Re Mi. The versions are all faithful reproductions and everyone concerned is in fine voice. Maybe it’s not getting ready to go out music (well not for me, but don’t let me stop you) but if it’s your thing this should satisfy.
