The MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) have recently sent out cease and desist letters to certain Bittorrent
websites, Lokitorrent has decided to fight it out with the big boys.

Bittorrent  technology has grown rapidly, at the end of 2004 a
research firm showed that it accounted for one third of all internet
traffic. One of the most successful peer-to-peer application it allows
users to download off each other, often getting remarkable download
results.

The MPAA is striking back at sites which have links to files which
allow users of the application to download pirated movies. The
application can also be used to download legitimate files.

The site plans to survive on donations and today is sitting on the
amount of $35,242 and hopes to receive $30,000 each month. Recent
estimates by attorneys say that this should be 2-3 times that amount in
a full-on battle.

Just before Christmas a few sites closed down after having received similar letters, most notably suprnova.org.
