Sexy, slutty or a plain good workout?

When the words ‘pole dancing’ are mentioned, the image of dimly-lit
slightly sleazy clubs comes to mind, but that tired stereotype is
changing fast and now classes are being held to teach women, and men,
just how to do it. Pole dancing lessons in London are quickly becoming
one of the foremost keep fit crazes as well as a popular idea for hen
nights, birthday parties and girly nights out. It is enjoyed by a host
of celebs including Kate Moss, Sarah Cox, Zoe Ball, Kelly Brook and
Jude Law!

Hailed as the latest alternative to aerobics, pole
dancing is a lot tougher than it looks, but still more enjoyable than
sweating in lycra in the gym. Over time it can improve muscle tone,
flexibility and posture and deportment. This helps you to carry your
body better making you look instantly slimmer and in better shape. It
tones all over, especially the arms, thighs and buttocks and you can
expect to burn about 250 calories in an average session – not bad at
all and much more fun than punishing yourself on a treadmill! It can
also do wonders for your confidence and self-esteem, making you more
comfortable with your own body and helping you feel more sexy and
attractive.

My Pole Dance School holds classes in various
locations across the UK – from London to Bristol to Glasgow! They offer
beginners classes, one-to-one tuition, taster sessions, 6-week courses
and the infamous Pole-Parties, which cost about £25.00 per person and
guarantee a great laugh and some good fun with your friends. They also
sell fixed poles, removable poles and poles with podiums on their
website for those who want to try it but would prefer to do so in the
privacy of their own home, or those who love it so much they want to
have constant access to one! I would definitely recommend trying a
taster session (only £25) to really get a feel for it and to get some
handy hints and tips from a professional.

The Pole-Parties
require a minimum of 8 people and start off with an energising warm-up
to get your heart pumping and your limbs loose. In the pole section,
you are taught how to build confidence on stage, good posture and body
language and how to perfect some mind-blowing pole tricks and sexy
dance moves. The lap dance section teaches you how to do some sensual
tantalising moves to get you well and truly versed in the art of
seduction! Perfect skills to take home to your partner, or to attract a
new one! At the end of the session each guest performs their own
routine to show their sexy new skills and all participants go home with
a certificate of commendation and some eye-catching new talents!

Be
advised that you will need appropriate clothes and footwear to get the
most out of these classes. Bare legs are essential if you want to grip
on to the pole (you will slip with tights or trousers on) so the
ideal outfit is a pair of short shorts or hot-pants, and something
comfortable and attractive, but not restrictive on your top half. You
should bring some trainers for the warm up session and ideally high
heels (preferably with a bar or strap over the foot so they don’t fly
off!) for the rest of the class. Heels have
the advantage of to giving you that natural ‘strut’ to your
walk and helping you feel and look the part.

If hurling your body
around a pole seems a little too much like effort, why not try a course
in striptease. Polestars hold 6-week courses in Maida Vale for about
£130. Designed specifically for beginners, the course doesn’t involve
any nudity and aims to teach you key tricks to help unleash your inner
goddess. Time is spent on posture, body language (how to read it and
how to give out the right signals), dance moves, coordination, floor
work, nipple tassels, gloves, table dance, lap dance and finally the
striptease. By the end you should feel more at ease with your own body,
more confident and ready to show the world what an empowered sensual
vixen you are! Or maybe just surprise your man with a few new moves in
the privacy of your own boudoir!
