Every woman has gone to see this movie and every man in a relationship
knows that sooner or later he will have to see it too!

However, having
gone with a bunch of girlfriends I took great pleasure in seeing how
often I saw the men with tears in their eyes from laughter, rather than
just the women.
Let’s face it, this is not an amazing movie, and having read the book
it can be said it definitely does not do it total justice, but this is
a movie impossible not to like! It is funny and charming, and most
importantly it reaffirms the magic of love! This is a movie for anyone
with insecurities. It encourages you to be yourself, perhaps one of the
most simplest and yet strongest messages a movie can portray.

The movie
jumps straight to where the last one ended, with Bridget finally in
love and in a relationship with the handsome lawyer, Mark Darcy.
However, just because you have found love, does not mean all is going
to be smooth from there on.

The Edge of Reason asks the question: ‘Once
you have found true love, how do you make it last forever?’.
The most compelling part about the movie is that it focuses on the
little problems that we all encounter on a day to day basis and makes
us feel that there is someone else that understands. Breaking up with
your boyfriend for being aloof and for folding his underwear everyday
is perhaps not the greatest reason to break up with him, but it
highlights the underlying fact that often it is the little things that
count and it is all about getting that right.

Bridget Jones takes you
on a journey of reality. Once again we see Bridget caught between two
men, the wonderful and polite Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) and the
spontaneous smooth talking Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), two very
different men who both manage to make an impact in her life. The
question of course is, who wins the heart of Bridget?

American actress,
Rene Zellweger perfects the role of Bridget Jones, an English girl in
her 30’s, desperate for love and invites us to join her on this journey
of self exploration. You can’t help but fall in love with this
character, and you cant help but identify with her problems. One of the
most compelling moments was when Bridget landed up in prison due to an
unfortunate incident in Thailand. Here, surrounded by her female Thai
inmates, she breaks down in tears at her break up with Darcy. They all
sympathise with her and begin recalling their own horror relationship
stories. They recount tales of abuse and how they were forced into
using heroin and made to stay at home and do all the work while their
husbands went out all day. Suddenly Bridget’s reasoning of ‘he folds
his underwear and he can be a snob’ doesn’t seem like such a good
reason after all, and although done in a comical way, it’s a slap in
the face of reality and makes you realise how lucky you really are.

Bridget Jones Diary: The Edge of Reason is a light-hearted comedy that
provides a welcome relief from everyday life. Despite what some of the
critics may say, I enjoyed this movie. It allows you to not only laugh
at Bridget, but to laugh at yourself, and once you have done this, life
just doesn’t seem so bad anymore!
