Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years you’ve
probably heard of David Beckham and his creative PR director, wholly
untalented, horrifically undernourished wife Victoria Beckham.
Thankfully, most of us don’t hear that much about them living outside
the UK but as the marketing tool of many products such as Gillette he’s
hard to miss. The man has many online sites or ‘fanzines’ if you will,
and enough hype to inflate anyone’s ego. It’s no wonder why so many
tune in when things aren’t going swimmingly for these two- they are
weird. Had to say it and I know the truth can hurt but come on; one
look at them strutting around in matching white suits leaves me to
wonder what makes them think they’ll endear the test of time.

The Beckham’s aside there are loads more UK celebrities to familiarize
yourself with upon entering the country of grey skies and horizontal
rain.

Hopefully, this article will help to break down the television side of
things for you readers out there scratching your skulls over what is
the deal with Coronation Street? And why is there so much gossip and
hype about the actors of television programs? Since the television
awards weren’t too long ago I thought it was a good place to start.

This year’s winners are:

Most popular actress – Suranne Jones

Otherwise known as Karen McDonald
on Coronation Street. Although the actress is said to be leaving the
show she is a favourite with fans for the portrayal of a woman not
unlike Mrs. Beckham. Extremely celebrity driven and fame seeking. The
kind of lady who thinks it’s a good idea to divorce her current husband
just so she can remarry him in a grander do then the first time around
(I guess just renewing their vows was seen as too obvious).

Most popular actor – David Jason

This guy is one to know as he’s been
on a list of shows including Only Fools and Horses, The Darling Buds of
May, A Bit of a Do, A Touch of Frost, All the King’s Men, The Quest and
my personal favourite Dangermouse.

Most popular entertainment
presenters
– Ant and Dec

Before you scrunch up your face in confusion,
these are two people not muppets or cartoon characters as the names
might imply. ‘Ant’ is Anthony David McPartlin and ‘Dec’ is Declan
Joseph Oliver Donnelly. They have a variety TV show called Saturday
Night Takeaway, and during their music phase they were known as PJ and
Duncan. One of their hits which they performed on Top of the Pops is
called ‘Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble’ and if you’d like to find them in
your local record shop their album titles include ‘Psyche’ and ‘Top
Katz’.

Most popular comedy programme – Little Britain

Hilarious! If you want
to learn about British culture and comedy this is the show to watch.
Matt Lucas is my favourite cause he truly throws everything he’s got at
each character and the ‘village gay’ and ‘Vicky Pollard’ are so good
I’m giggling right now just thinking about him in those wacky outfits!
He also has his own comedy videos on sale.

Most popular reality programme – Big Brother

The previous Big Brother
brought Nadia to the masses. You’ve probably heard her name or seen her
picture somewhere as she won the ultimate reality TV show this past
summer. I never thought I’d watch a show like this one but honestly you
won’t have a choice. The whole thing is that a bunch of people are
trapped in a house (by choice) and the producers act as Big Brother
monitoring their every move and directing their lives while under
tenancy. If the contestants do anything wrong or are generally disliked
by the viewers they are kicked off and return home for their due moment
of fame. The show’s hosted by Davina McCall who may not be on the next
season as her latest goss is that she’s signing a spokesperson deal
with Garnier.

Most popular serial drama – Coronation Street

I hope I don’t need to
explain that Coronation Street is about the happenings of a particular
street; that should be pretty obvious. The ins and outs are way too
complicated for this article. To say it portrays a diverse range of
personalities is an understatement. I will
mention one I found exceptionally interesting. Hayley Cropper played by
Julie Hesmondhalgh is my personal favourite being a transsexual who’s
undergone surgery in Amsterdam. By far the most creatively organized
character on the show I was astonished to view a mousy, plain woman
playing the part since the usual treatment is one of sex obsessed and
trashy.

Recognition award – Caroline Quentin

Upon reviewing her background on
the internet I can see why Caroline won this award. The woman has held
a range of acting roles throughout her career, and jointly runs a
production company called Quentin Morrissey Productions. One of her
recent roles is Maddy Magellen on a show called Jonathan Creek. She’s
most well known for her role on Men Behaving Badly playing a character
named Dorothy.

Nearly every country has their own list of celebs commonly referred to
as ‘B’ level stars. There is no way I could list all the UK’s B stars
here. Other programs that are often up for awards which house a cast of
stars often mentioned in magazines such as Reveal and Hello! are
Hollyoaks, Eastenders, and Emmerdale all of which showcase their stars
in mags like FHM and in turn produce a male fanbase for shows commonly
viewed by females. In the end it’s all a bit of tongue and check with
celebs in the UK. Nothing involved which could lead to personal
lifestyle improvements or ending international conflicts, but instead
provides good fun, laughs and most importantly entertainment.
